The Friday Forum Plus Chantecaille Lip Chic for Spring 2016

Chantecaille's Lip Chics ($36) for Spring looked very pretty in the promotional photo, but they are even better in person. I swatched them yesterday at Neiman Marcus. I wanted you to see the three new shades.

Chantecaille's Lip Chic is a hybrid between a lip gloss and lipstick - my kind of lip color.  It combines the high shine and plumping effects of a gloss with the rich, even coverage of a lipstick. The exceptionally comfortable formula is easy to apply and creates an even finish that is shiny and beautiful. Lip Chic leaves lips looking fuller and decidedly more youthful in appearance - and never irritated. Lip Chics apply with an incredibly soft, lightweight texture and helps smooth the appearance of the lips.

Gaia is shown at the top of my arm. It's a soft, shimmering earthy caramel. Wild Poppy, shown in the middle, is a sheer, vibrant poppy red with a touch of coral. Red Juniper is a classic and sophisticated berry red. My photo was taken in full sun.

I was afraid that Wild Poppy might be too coral for me, but it's not - it's beautiful. Gaia is my kind of nude/brown shade, and Red Juniper is the only kind of red I can wear. It has enough sheerness that I look bright and natural, not like a kid  playing grownup.

Now I want all three of these shades, which can be found at Barney's New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Frederick Fekkai Salons, Neiman Marcus, Space NK, select Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's locations, and Chantecaille's Web site.

We had a snow storm Monday of this week (5-6 inches), that washed away with heavy rains the next morning. Now, the predictions are for a 60+ degree weekend. It's already pothole hell here. I imagine that some roads will be impassable by next week. I look for the holes, but some catch me by surprise. I see a re-alignment job in my future in the spring.

It's time for The Friday Forum. The Friday Forum has always been an opportunity to share information. Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Tell us about it! Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Tell us why! Do you have questions others might be able to answer? We can help! Want to talk about skin care? I'm game. Just use the comments. We have busy weekends and slow ones on the forum. I hope you are ready to share, especially since it's still Beauty Event in the stores.

I'm loving "Wild Poppy"...in the photo, in the swatch, any way at all! I love Chantecaille's Lip Chics, which is reminding me that I have one...somewhere...Does that mean I have too much makeup? Impossible!

Friday Forum: I just purchased one of the new Bobbi Brown "Nourishing Lip Colors" in "Rosebud" but I want a whole bunch more. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to look at them tomorrow in NYC, where my daughter and I are attending the "Athena Film Festival" at Barnard College, which she will be attending this fall. I'm looking forward to the day, the movie we chose to see, "A Ballerina's Tale," a documentary about Misty Copeland, the first African-American principal dancer for the ABT, and shopping!
Also, really wanting to get a look at the new "BITE" Amuse Bouche lip colors at Sephora. There are a lot of colors, and they're supposed to be healthy! (Think about how much lipstick we eat!)

MamaVal,

I saw those BITE Lipsticks at Sephora. I want the new tinted lip balms from Rouge Bunny Rouge. We are so in love with our lip colors.

Have fun in NYC!

I have been all about lip color recently, and was lucky to get the new Tatcha Plum Blossom. It is lovely, but looks better on my fair daughter than on me. I need something a little brighter. My current favorite is the Louboutin lip sheer in Tres Bea. I love the coral-pink color and the texture! The case is a little too "bling" for me, but I love the formula and color. I've ordered the new Chanel Stylo in Article, but is hasn't been delivered yet. On another note, I'm interested in the new Chantecaille palette, but is it to iridescent for a "mature" woman's less than perfect eye?

Hi Plegamom,

There's one iridescent shade in the Chantecaille palette, Sage. Just remember: never put eye shadow over any crepiness. I have a little in the inner corner above the crease, so I just avoid "painting" it. You can use a primer like Edward Bess's so that that part of your lid doesn't look forgotten. Of course, you can use any light matte shade that works with your coloring. Just make sure it doesn't highlight the crepiness.

Most of us have smoothe lids under the crease. That's where you should apply the iridescent shades.

I can't afford the Louboutin lips, so I haven't paid much attention to them.

Thanks CG! The Chantecaille palettes have never let me down. I can't really afford the Louboutin lip color either, but I did splurge on this one and I haven't been sorry. I have recently tried the Natasha Denona Foundation, and really like it. I'm blown away by the Beautylish customer service! The pump on my foundation broke, and they are sending another, and have sent really nice samples!

Plegamom, I'm glad to hear they are making good on your purchase. Samples make us happy too. :)

I've had a quiet beauty week as I've had house guests for the past few days. Although, I do consider spending time with friends a beautiful treat :-)

The lipstick launches this spring have been stunning and I'm so glad to see a swing back to creamier, glossier lipsticks. I can appreciate a good satin matte and was particular taken with Tom Ford's version awhile back, but nowadays I simply can't wear them with regularity because they dry my lips out even with lots of prep before application. And, as for true mattes---forgetaboutit! They are so unflattering on most women my age. So, yes, I'm thrilled with the lusher, shinier lipsticks that have been hitting the counters.

Our weather has been crazy in So Cal. We had a week of 80+ temperatures and arid Santa Ana winds then a couple days of rain and cooler temps, but we are set to bounce up to the 80's again by Monday. Crazy! Needless to say, my skin can feel as dry as those Santa Ana winds that blow in from the desert if I'm not diligent about moisturizing. I've really come to appreciate Tatcha's new gel serum. It's been a life saver. I've been applying it morning and night and follow it with my La Mer. So far, so good. I've noticed a huge boost in hydration and my skin looks calmer and smoother because it isn't stressed. How often you use it just depends on how dry your skin is. When the winds aren't blowing, once a day on my face and neck is enough for me but I've been applying a bit morning and night around my eyes. It's proven to be an excellent product for my dry, sensitive, mature skin.

That's it for me. Let's hear from the rest of you :-)

Eilee, which La Mer product?

Eileen said...

Hi Charlestongirl,

I'm a fan of the original classic cream formula. I rub it briskly to warm and soften it and then pat it all over face, neck, and chest. I also love La Mer's essence called The Treatment. After cleansing, I pour about 1/4 teaspoon into the palm of my hand and pat it all over my face, neck, and chest. It's a skin softening extra boost of hydration that my skin seems to love. Why can't my skin love the cheap stuff?!? LOL

The top color, Gaia, is gorgeous. I don't think I can pull off the other 2 colors.

Hi CG
Just wanted to say and say still an avid reader of your blog eve though I do not comment often.
I just got samples of the new Chanel healthy glow foundation-I am loving it and will probably get a bottle.
I bought the new Armani Glow and primer but I suspect one of them is making me breakout!!
These lip chic' look gorgeous !

Charlestongirl said...

Eileen, I use both too. Such wonderful products!

Charlestongirl said...

Dlori, maybe not, depending on how red your hair is.

Charlestongirl said...

Thanks, makeupremastered! Someone else didn't like the new Armani products. Could be the silicone.

HI Makeupremastered,

So far, I've read one review (Linda at Silverkis' World) about the new Les Beiges Healthy Glow foundation and it looked beautiful on her. It did, indeed, provide a healthy glow and you'd never guess Linda had been so ill. It also provided more coverage than I had anticipated. I've been a huge fan of the powder ever since it was introduced. I wear it in #10 during the summer when I want a more "season appropriate" look without resorting to bronzer. It adds just enough warmth and depth to my complexion to make me look like I'm enjoying time outdoors. Now, I'm really looking forward to trying the new foundation.

So happy to see you back on the web, CG. Except, you are expensive. I'm off to buy some Chantecaille. Sigh.

Charlestongirl said...

LOL, Unknown. Have fun!

Dear Eileen, I'm in Souther California also. The weather is divine but crazy making. Never kno what to wear. You are all costing me money. Tasha, La Mer and Chantecaille. I read where Caroline Hirons adores the Chantecaille tineted moisturizer so of course I must try that also.
Love the Friday forum.

Hi Sandra,

And they say we don't have weather in So Cal! We do, we do! Crazy weather!! LOL

My skin is dry and this vacillating weather has been making it even drier. Of course, my age also has a lot to do with that. As we get older, the skin becomes thinner and more fragile and the natural barrier just doesn't hold moisture in the way it used to. Consequently, La Mer is one of my mainstays, but Tatcha's introduction of their genius gel serum came at a perfect time for me. It's been a real game changer. So, now that I've got my complexion under control, I need to figure out what to wear--sandals or Uggs, tank top or sweater, crop pants or wool slacks. :-) But, I must admit, I love the golden state and wouldn't live anywhere else. As our weather warms up again, I'll be thinking of Charlestongirl putting peanuts out in the snow for all her sweet critters.

Sandra, we got a break yesterday. It was 65 degrees!

I'm glad you like The Friday Forum. Come back next week!

Thank you so much, as always, for providing swatches of the lip chics. Like you, I love Chantecaille; but it's not always easy to find reviews of their products online, and I live far, far from any counter where I could look at things in person. So I'm extremely grateful that you take the time to seek out these items and share images with all of us. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
